El hongo medicinal Agaricus blazei Murill, originario de la selva tropical brasileña, se ha utilizado en la medicina tradicional y como alimento saludable para la prevención de diversas enfermedades, incluidas infecciones, alergias y cáncer. Agaricus blazei Murill es rico en polisacáridos inmunomoduladores, como los β-glucanos, y se ha demostrado que posee propiedades antitumorales, anti infecciosas y antialérgicas/antiasmáticas en modelos con ratones, además de efectos antiinflamatorios.
